Story
Bliss are a charity for babies born too soon too small or too sick. They raise money to support families of premature babies, buy equipment, fund research and much, much more. They are a charity close to my heart…
In August last year our baby, Lucas, was born six weeks early. We still don’t know why. He was a good weight and after some initial oxygen he was breathing on his own but over the next month we fought to get him feeding and gaining weight so that we could come home. In that time we experienced first hand what it feels like to have your baby taken away as soon as they are born and to have their birth steeped in worry and fear rather than joy and expectation. We also came to realise that we were one of the lucky ones. Despite our worries we eventually brought home our baby and now have a happy healthy little boy. In the time I spent living in the special care unit there were many babies and families who weren’t so lucky.
So I am running the Ealing half marathon with Lola’s mum Alix because we will never take for granted that our babies are healthy. We are running for all the tiny babies and their parents; for the babies like Lucas who are doing fine, for the babies who are still fighting and for the tiny lives that end too soon. Please give what you can and we will endeavour to make you proud
