Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am one of four offshore employees, currently working on a North Sea platform. On February 7th 2010 we will attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the largest free standing mountain in the world at 19,340 ft. The whole focus of the challenge is to raise money for four individual respected charities, that being: CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen North) (A.McIntosh) – Children’s Heart Unit Freeman’s Hospital / Children’s Ward Rake Lane Newcastle (R.Crass) – Breast Cancer James Cook Hospital Middleborough (D.Nolan) - Zoe’s Place Children’s Hospice Middleborough (A.Nolan) The Kilimanjaro climb should take around 7 days to reach the summit "Uhuru Peak" (Uhuru translates in to English as "Freedom"). We will be attempting the Machame route which is generally considered to be a more difficult route as it is longer as well as steeper. Although statistics vary, it is estimated that around only 50% of people who attempt to climb Africa’s Kilimanjaro actually succeed with their attempt to summit. One of the most likely reasons for this is altitude sickness, which can be life threatening. We have started a strict training regime to get ourselves in peak condition to make the climb (excuse the pun). As you can appreciate this attempted climb is a major undertaking and we hope, with your help, to raise a large sum for each of the respective charities. Cancer affects so many people, not only those who receive a diagnosis but also their family and friends. It is for this reason that I have chosen to raise money for CLAN, as they provide support for everyone affected with a wide range of services. Please click on the CLAN logo to find out more.
