Story
As you may know and the picture shows, I previously completed the London Marathon in 1998, during which I swore I would never do one again. Ever.
However, time is a great healer... for the mind. For my knees the opposite is true. But regardless I have decided, in a moment of mid life crisis, to attempt another. This time at the other end of the British Isles along the banks of Loch Ness, on 3 October 2010.
I have volunteered to do this for the ABF - The Soldiers Charity because I believe it is such a worthy cause. To quote from their website, which I hope you will find the time to take a look at;
"We are The Soldiers’ Charity. We give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families.
We have seen a 30% rise over the past two years in applications from soldiers who have taken part in previous and current conflicts and we currently raise £7 million a year to meet this need.
As a result of Current Operations it is anticipated that the requests for assistance will rise significantly in the coming years."
I know that in these times of 'austerity' money can be tight but if you could donate even the smallest amount then that would be greatly appreciated by me, the charity and of course all of those that they help.
It will also inspire me to beat my previous time and run under 3hours 40minutes!
If you are able to donate then I have shown below the benefits of doing this via my website but of course if you would like to donate to me in person then that is also fine.
Thank you all and I will update after the event to let you know how I got on!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
