Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm planning to do a parachute jump in order to raise some money for SANDS! Haha! I can hear my nearest and dearest laughing their heads off right now because they know just how severe my fear of heights is! Yes, I'm the girl who can't climb a ladder, or look over the banister of my stairs, but I'm willing to face my fears head-on for this charity.  And I can assure you, I haven't 'lost the plot', and I'm too young for a 'mid-life crisis'!!

I'm sure most of you are aware that we lost our little boy Charlie to stillbirth, 39 weeks into pregnancy and you'll how hard it was for us to come to terms with this.  It really shook our world.   Charlie was a perfect little boy and I had a perfectly healthy and normal pregnancy.  But the hardest thing to come to term with was the fact that there was no reason behind Charlie's death.  This made me really angry, how in this day and age, with all medical advances and so forth, how could no-one tell me how a baby could die within a week of his due date???  In the UK, 17 babies a day are stillborn or die in the first 4 weeks of life. Here in N. Ireland, 4 babies a week are stillborn or die in the first 4 weeks of life.  Around 25% of all stillbirths are 'unexplained' and need further investigation and maybe it would be found that these deaths may actually have been avoidable.

SANDS (Stillbirth and neo-natal death society) provides support to parents who have a lost a baby through still-birth or very early in life.  They also lead the research into why so many babies are lost each year to stillbirth.  This is why I think they are so worthy of any money I can fundraise while facing my biggest personal challenge ever!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
