Story
In August 2016, I will be taking part in Ride the North, a two day, 281 km cycle challenge through the Grampian Highlands, North Scotland. The event will begin in the Aberdeenshire village of Rhynie and continue up to Inverness via Glenlivet and Tomintoul. Day two will start in Inverness and finish back in Rhynie, cycling via Forres and Elgin.
I will be participating in this challenge in aid of Maggie's. Maggie's offers free practical, emotional and social support to anyone and everyone affected by cancer. There are a number of Maggie's centres across the UK which allow those affected by cancer to drop in at any time to seek the comfort they need in a relaxing environment.
In May 1993, Maggie Keswick was told her breast cancer was terminal and was given two to three months to live, despite this, Maggie lived for another 18 months. During this time, Maggie and her husband, along with the help of her medical team, developed a new approach to cancer care.
Maggie used her knowledge and experience to help with the new approach as she was determined that people should not "lose the joy in living in the fear of dying". Maggie passed away in June 1995 and in November 1996, the first Maggie's Centre opened in Edinburgh and saw Maggie's plan become a reality.
If this is something you would like to support me in, please donate to this cause, I highly appreciate all donations, big or small.
