Story
In December 2016 our 6 year old son, Daniel, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. At the beginning of his journey he was feeling very unwell, in addition to being petrified of the numerous medical investigations he had to endure including blood tests, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, as well as intravenous, spinal and tablet chemotherapy and having to spend Christmas in hospital.
Daniel has to have a large proportion of the first 6 months of treatment, out of total 3 years treatment, 170 miles from home. Clic Sargent has been able
to provide a room in Marion's House, a 'home from home' in Glasgow, for families of children being treated for cancer. This is truly an invaluable resource. We had this room for 8 weeks, allowing us to be together
as much as possible, and especially on Christmas morning. At times such as this the importance of having a ‘space’ where our family can be together cannot be underestimated.
Clic Sargent also provide ongoing clinical, practical and emotional support for us all as we continue our journey to fight Daniel’s illness.
It is for the above reasons that I have decided to run the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 10k this year, fundraising for Clic Sargent in order for them to be able to continue to support Daniel, Kevin, Conor and I, as well as
other children and families who are battling childhood cancer.
When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health. Today, 11 more children and young people will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. CLIC Sargent will fight tirelessly for them, individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things. To find out more visit www.clicsargent.org.uk.
