Story
Cooee :)
This October I will be taking part in the Parkinsons UK Spooky Sprint 10km race in Nottingham to raise money to support Parkinsons UK.
My Dad lived with Parkinsons for over 13 years. His career was cut short due to the onset of this illness when he was 60. Unlike the common association of Parkinsons with "the shakes" my Dad actually used to sieze up, at these times he would joke about looking like a stuck stick insect!
Dad was an active fundraiser for Parkinsons UK and would often be seen in Bexleyheath Broadway with his collecting bucket. As jingling your bucket at passers by was frowned on; my Dad would give a wink and tell people it was the Parkinsons and who's going to argue with a 6'7" pensioner waving a bucket at them?!
Dad never let things get him down and would shrug off his mounting ailments in later years and the dreadful toll Parkinsons was taking on his body, predominantly the destruction of all his muscles, including his precious heart. I have so many happy memories of time spent with my Dad and I know that many of you have yours too.
If Dad was still alive he would be rattling his bucket at you but as he's no longer able to do this I am collecting in my own way, but I'm not above posting my sweaty running socks to you in the post if you ignore my plea ;)
Anything you can give will be gratefully received and my Dad woud give you a pat on the back with those big hands of his (see picture left) and you know everything will be ok.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and thank you for anything you are able to contribute in my Dad's memory.
