Story
Hello everyone
Just wanted to say thank you for visiting our Just giving page. We wanted to tell you all why myself and Sarah are running the Great Cumbrian Run next month and why we want to raise as much money as possible for The Sarah Matheson trust.
Earlier this year our best friend’s dad, Steve sadly lost his battle against Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) at age 49. Although we knew he had this disease we were unaware of its severity as we had never heard of MSA. He had been told his life would be shortened by this condition but none of us could have foreseen his sudden passing which left family and friends devastated. It wasn’t until his sad and untimely passing that we did some research into MSA and found that it is a Rare, progressive and life shortening condition, for which there is yet no cure. It is caused by degeneration of nerve cells in specific areas of the brain and it affects movement, balance and automatic functions. The Sarah Matheson trust was formed to help people living with and caring for Multiple System Atrophy. The trust works to alleviate the isolation and the lack of information these families face. When talking to people it is very rare to find anyone that has heard of this condition and that is why it is so important to us to help the Sarah Matheson Trust raise awareness, help support families and most importantly promote and sponsor research into cause and treatment of MSA. We are running this race in memory of Steve. He loved life and lived it to the full even when his condition worsened. Steve and his family have inspired us both and we hope that by running 13.1 miles on you will show your support to this worthy charity. Thank you Alison and Sarah x
