Story

Thank you for visiting my just giving page.

Anyone who knows me well, will know that I’m an outdoorsy sort of a girl...Never happier than when I’m horse riding, or heading up some incline with the wind at my back, a song in my heart and a bar of Kendal Mint Cake in my hand!  So to you it won’t come as a surprise to learn that I’m climbing Kilimanjaro in June 2013.

To be honest, Climbing Kili has always been a personal ambition of mine, one of those things to do before I’m too old, so when the opportunity came to combine it with raising some funds for charity then I jumped at the chance.

Here comes the serious bit (to paraphrase that well known commercial featuring Jennifer Aniston and her hair):  My chosen charity is the Rosie May Memorial Fund, which I came to hear about from a colleague of mine at work. This charity was set up in 2003 following the tragic death of Rosie May Storrie.  Her parents Graham and Mary have worked very hard (along with their sons and friends) to ensure that Rosie May's name lives on and the bright little girl that she was, is never lost.  Her legacy is the Rosie May Home in Sri Lanka, a unique concept which offers a place of safety for girls displaced by the Tsunami in 2004.  The home aims to create a loving family environment where sisters are reunited and live together again.

I know that times are hard and money is tight (too tight to mention if you believe Mick Hucknall) but I also know that people are generous and caring and whatever you can give will be really appreciated by the girls at the Rosie May Home.  Climbing Kili will be exhilarating and awesome but it will also be challenging and difficult and between you and me I’m just a tad scared about altitude sickness and the possibility of failing.  With your support and encouragement though I know I can do it because I know that whatever I have to endure it will be worth it.

Thanks for your support.
