Story

I'm bungee jumping for Parkinson’s UK on Saturday 3rd August (moved to Sunday 4th August) in memory of my Dad who died of Parkinson's disease on 5th May 2013 aged 65. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the early age of 40. This had a devastating impact on his life as he became more and more frail and struggled so much with the even simplest of tasks. The disease slowly progressed and led to him becoming severely disabled before it led him to an early death which meant that he missed out on a lot of precious moments with his friends and family.

Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological condition which affects around 127,000 people in the UK. Most people who get Parkinson's disease are aged 50 or over but as I have experienced, younger people can get it too. People with Parkinson's disease don't have enough of a chemical called dopamine in their brain and without this chemical they develop a tremor, rigidity and their movement becomes slower. The end stages of this disease usually take over the sufferers physical movements leaving them unable to take care of themselves.

Despite extensive research and recent drug therapies, Parkinson’s disease is still a progressive and incurable disease. Parkinson’s UK help to fund research and specialist nurses whose support is invaluable to both sufferers of the disease and their close family. The work this charity does is vital in the way of research and support so please sponsor me for such a good cause. I have paid for the bungee jump myself which means that 100% of any money I am sponsored will go directly to Parkinson’s UK.
