Story

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for visiting my page, don't forget to gift aid it, here's the story & the plan....

As some of you may know I've had a plan for my hair for the past few years (still in progress) I have now reached the stage in my plan where I am going to shave it all off!! I'll be sad to see the dreadlocks go but it's for an amazing cause...

I have been racking my brain trying to decide which charity to raise money for, there are so many worthy ones! After much thought I have chosen Amnesty International. I feel that it is important to raise money for the work they do, and I also feel that a head shave is symbolic and relevent to the cause.

My hair has been a variety of different lengths, colours and styles and I really express myself through my hair - I am an individual and I am lucky enough to be living in a country that allows me to show that and be proud of that. Unfortunately there are so many people who don't have that freedom, or any freedom, and that is why I chose Amnesty. Amnesty International have a range of campaigns including  topics such as Violence against women, Poverty, Abolishing the death penalty, Refugees and Asylum and Human rights for China to name but a few.

I am going to shave my head as a symbol of stripping away my expression to express something else, for the people who don't yet have what we assume a right to.

Please Help! by giving what you can, and don't forget to gift aid =)

Thanks, Love Ally xx

We have two main ways of working to achieve human rights for everyone:

Promoting general awareness of human rights

We carry out a wide range of educational activities, promoting the values contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international agreed human rights standards.

  • We encourage people to accept that all human rights must be protected
  • We encourage governments to accept and enforce international standards of human rights
  • We encourage governments, political organisations, businesses, other groups and individuals to support and respect human rights
  • Opposing specific abuses of human rights

We undertake research and action focused on stopping abuses of the following rights:

  • Physical and mental integrity
  • Freedom of conscience and expression
  • Freedom from discrimination
  •

    OUR VISION, MISSION AND VALUES

We have 2.8 million members worldwide who are passionate about our beliefs and not afraid to take unpopular stands to realise our vision and mission.

Our vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all the human rights enshrined in theUniversal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments.

In pursuit of this vision, our mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of these rights.

Our core values are international solidarity, effective action for the individual victim, global coverage, the universality and indivisibility of human rights, impartiality and independence, and democracy and mutual respect.
