Story

** I signed up for this race back in the spring when I was still doing Couch to 5K (C25K). It was a huge leap of faith and now race day is nearly here - Yikes!! **

My son Bertie (age 12) has a rare form of muscular dystrophy called Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (UCMD). This is a muscle weakness condition and it is progressive. There are no cures or treatments to slow it down yet BUT there is groundbreaking research happening to develop therapies.

Bertie uses his power wheelchair most of the time now and he is starting to develop scoliosis of the spine (a curve). His body just won't work for him. Everything is getting harder, even lifting his foot an inch to put socks on. As his mum this is so hard to see.

Bertie loves Alton Towers, so this is a special place for us as a family and a great place for me to take on something I find very hard - anyone who knows me well knows I was never a runner. Run Alton Towers (2023) will be my first 10K...ever. I've started from scratch this year, learning to run with the NHS C25K App.

We really appreciate your support.

Thank you!
