Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for any support you can give.
On 2 December 2021, my youngest sister suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest whilst she was at work. She was 51 years of age and had nothing wrong with her except a couple of unexplained (at the time) episodes of breathlessness in the previous couple of weeks.
It could so easily have been fatal.
She was in hospital for 14 days and it was discovered that she has an Ejection Fraction of 27% which meant she has heart failure. She went on to have an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator) fitted and will be now be on various medications for the rest of her life. She is fortunate to have a lovely heart failure nurse and she is so grateful to her family and amazing network of friends for all the support she has had in getting back to doing as much as she can and living life to the full.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
It is for this reason that I have decided to run the Cardiff Half Marathon again to raise funds for BHF. Having run it in 2019 in 3hrs 13 minutes, and then having the 2020 event transferred several times and eventually running it virtually in October 2021 due to the pandemic, I vowed I would never run a half marathon again as the training alone takes a huge amount of committment and effort on my part - not to mention the event itself. However my goal this year, as well as raising funds for BHF, is to run it in under 3 hrs, so wish me luck! Thanks!
