Story
William and Alison
We are delighted to be able to raise money for both Maggie's Wirral and Maggie's Bart's this year by running the London Marathon.
William's Story
I was first introduced to the work of Maggie's when I visited Maggie's Wirral in 2019. Maggie's had been providing amazing support to my soon to be wife as she was undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer. When we married later that year, we asked our guests to donate to Maggie's rather than buy presents. They made many generous donations to help support the work of Maggie's in Merseyside. I am continuing to support the work of Maggie's in Wirral by running the London Marathon.
Alison's Story
I first heard about the work of Maggie's back in 2015 when my sister (Anne-Marie) visited when she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. Anne-Marie looked forward to her visits to Maggie's Wirral which brought joy in the final months of her life. When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 I was encouraged to go to Maggie's and I too found a place of joy and hope. A few years later, I'm now working at Maggie's Bart's and helping people who face cancer.
So this year, I was given the opportunity to run the London marathon for Maggie's. This is something I've always wanted to do but I never thought I could run. Back in 2015 Anne-Marie believed I could run and we agreed to run the Santa Dash together. Sadly Anne-Marie died before we could do it, but some great friends encouraged me to start running and I managed a slow 5k back then. I'm now in the midst of training to get round the extra 35k in order to complete a marathon. My amazing husband William, has been kind enough to join me in my training and we'll both be running in October.
