Story
Climbing Kilimanjaro for Breast Cancer
At 5895m Mt Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes to break through the earth’s crust, it the tallest free standing mountain in the world... my Challenge is to reach its summit!
Hi my name is Alicia White and as you have just read I have decided to take on the Challenge of Climbing Kilimanjaro, I have the option to purely climb Kilimanjaro to say wow look what I achieved or to climb it for charity, I decided to climb for charity.
This will be a great achievement for me whilst at the same time giving some money to a charity of which we can all relate, I’m sure all of you out there know someone who has had breast cancer, an aunty, sister, grandmother, friend, friend of a friend... so please help me to raise money to help all those amazing women through some tough times!!!
I have quite a bit of training ahead of me before the September 11 start date as on the trek we will be passing through several different climate zones on the way up and will have a huge final day ahead of me starting at midnight in order to summit the mountain at Uhuru peak, climbing the final 1295m, then to follow by a huge decent of 2415, making this day the longest day at about 16hours trekking, but of course the most rewarding as having summited Kilimanjaro!
My training will start with 2, 1/2 hour runs a week along with weight training and either spinning or stair climbing, progressing to 4, 6 and 8hr long walks towards the end, whilst keeping up with the weight training, running and classes. These walks will also give me the opportunity to explore some more of the UAE where I am currently living as I am hoping to get up the Liwa Sand Dune and Jebel Hafeet as part of my training.
I need your help and support in two ways to make this possible, one by general support and two by donating to make it possible. I have contributed £1000 myself and need to raise a further £3700, this goes direct to The Breast Cancer Association who contribute to the rest of my climbing costs at a hugely discounted rate, enabling them to keep a large percentage of the raised money for their continuing efforts in helping cancer patients and research.
Please help make this trip possible and help make so many peoples lives a bit better by donating.
I really appreciate your support!
Thank you in advance, Alicia
