Story
Cancer is all too familiar and I have come across various forms of it over the years with some success stories and some heartbreaking losses. Following the diagnosis of close family and friends, I became familiar with the language, process, physical and mental frustrations, symptoms and effects of both cancer and the treatment.
Despite how close you are to it and how much you think you understand the disease and treatments (obviously not all cancer is the same), you're never quite prepared to hear that you yourself would be next to join the club.
In October 2021, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, stage 1C. I was one of the lucky people who would be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and most definitely live to tell the tale.
Luck seems to have been a driving factor through my cancer journey and just 8 months later following a hysterectomy and 12 weeks of chemo I could officially say I was in remission.
I am so grateful for the support of my friends and family and all those who have been part of my journey so far. Mine is a relatively happy story and for that I am grateful. For many, the outcome isn't so easy or bright.
I am running this half to raise money for a fantastic cause in the hopes that, just for the price of a pint, we might all be able to help the constant battle to understand cancer in all its forms and continue to make important breakthroughs to defeat cancer.
Anything you can donate will help and I am eternally grateful for your support.
