Story
Dear all,
I have signed up to run the London marathon next year and would appreciate any help and support to get me through the already gruelling process!
I am raising money for The Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust. This charity works to help people with drug and alcohol dependence move towards, achieve and maintain positive and fulfilling drug-free and crime-free lives, both in prison and in the community. Half the money will also be going to The Bridges a smaller unit with RAPts that provides rehab treatment for men in Hull. The Bridges is a wonderful place, and the only centre of its kind to cater specifically for men on release from prison who need help with their addiction.
I was introduced to this charity through a family friend who is extremely involved and passionate about it. It is also especially important for me as I have previously spent time working in a Young Offenders Institute just outside of Bristol. Working here gave me a real insight into the varying effects of alcohol and drugs, and how for many it acts as a form of solace in a very disruptive life. I worked with boys as young as 13 whose substance abuse was a key reason for their offending behaviour and for many it continues to play a significant role in the likelihood of re-offending. For that reason, it is hugely important to make sure that the necessary help and support is given.
I have always wanted to run a marathon and couldn’t be more pleased that I am raising money for such a worthwhile cause. With that being said I would hugely appreciate a small sponsorship from you to try and get me to my aim of £1500. I am well aware that requests for charity donations are frequent but any donation large or small would be incredibly appreciated.
Much love,
Alice x
