Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!!
I am fundraising for ProjectRiandu. This project aims to build a secondary school for over 200 deaf children in the town of Riandu, Kenya. I am very excited for this project as, though the challenge is enormous, we have a team (both in the UK and in Kenya) of very talented and committed people who are determined for the best possible success. The promise of this project is to enable hundreds of deaf children in the area to access secondary school education. There are currently only 4 providers of secondary education for the 700,000 deaf children currently in Kenya. We aim to help tackle this deficit.
This project is being done through a charity that was set up in honour of my godfather, Peter Cowley, who died when I was little. The Peter Cowley Africa Trust has been doing brilliant work, building strong relations with communities around Nairobi and supporting their grassroots projects.
I had the privilege of visiting many of these projects in Kenya with PCAT in 2008. It was a challenging, rewarding and wonderful experience. I am excited to share this with the volunteers coming out to build with us this summer. It will be great to be back in the warm, vibrant and incredibly welcoming culture of Kenya!
I believe this project to be of great merit due to the responsibility the team members and volunteers are taking in order to ensure that it is being carried out to best benefit the community of Riandu.
It is a student lead project so we need as much help as we can get. Please donate generously; all proceeds go directly to materials and services for the building of the school.
