Story
On the 28th February 2011, at 11 weeks old, Alfie underwent life saving surgery at Southampton General Hospital to repair his form of congenital heart disease(CHD): Tetralogy of Fallot. (CHD is a term used to describe a problem with the heart’s structure and function due to abnormal development before birth).
Alfie’s recovery was not straight forward; he suffered two separate pneumothorax’s, kidney failure, irregular heart rhythms and there were problems weaning him off of the ventilator. He remained a patient on Ocean Ward for 24 days and throughout that time he received the most incredible care and support from the entire team. He was eventually ready come home and ever since Ocean Ward have remained a part of Alfie’s and our families lives.
It is likely that Alfie will require further surgery in the future to correct a complication and Ocean Ward will once again be there to support both Alfie and our family throughout.
To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of his surgery, Alfie has decided to undertake his own personal challenge to raise vital funds for the Families of Ocean Ward.
The Challenge
It is just under 60 miles from our home in Weymouth to Ocean Ward based at Southampton General Hospital and Alfie plans to cycle, walk & scoot this distance in less than the 24 days he was an inpatient.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and donating, every penny helps and Alfie will update you on his challenge as he clocks up the miles!
