Alex Foley Appeal · 31 December 2018 ·
We are trying to fund raise €80,000 for Alex Foley to have an operation called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) and to cover the intensive 2 year after care rehab.
The original target was €60,000 but due to the euro losing a third of its value to the Dollar we have been forced to raise our target.
Alex has been diagnosed with spastic Diplegia cerebral palsy and cannot walk unaided. The SDR operation will remove the spasticity from Alex's legs and help him walk independently. The SDR operation is performed in St. Louis Children's hospital in Missouri USA. We have received a letter from St. Louis confirming that they strongly recommend SDR for Alex and have accepted him as a candidate for the surgery.
Alex is now scheduled on the July 2015 list for the surgery at St Louis. Pending enough money being raised and he will also be reviewed when we arrive in St.Louis to assess if he will need the Percs surgery. Percs is a procedure to accomplish lengthening it allows the muscle to return to its normal lenght and the joint to straighten and is one of the steps to helping children walk with their heels on the floor and there knees straight.
We thank you for visiting our page and hope you will join Alex on his journey through SDR.
Should we exceed the target amount the extra funds raised will be used to pay for Alex’s one year post-operation check up and the extra physio required after the SDR operation. If we do not raise enough funds to send Alex for the SDR operation the money raised on-line will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope where it will be used to help other sick children.
