Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Those of you that know my family and me will probably already know, but for those of you that don't, on 6th November 2012 my Dad was diagnosed with Throat Cancer.

It all seems like a bit of a daze now but I will never forget the weeks leading up to and the day that he was diagnosed and the devastating effects it had on the whole family. At first we didn't know the extent of it or the outlook but thankfully it was caught in the early stages and the prognosis was good.

A course of intensive treatment, lots of love and care from both family and friends and The Christie Hospital and 3 months later and Dad was given provisional clearance on 12th February 2013 that the treatment had worked and the Cancer had gone. Believe me, the celebrations on that day were extensive! He is now in remission for 5 years.

The BIG C has a ripple effect and, no doubt, has affected every person at some point in varying degrees. It is a very worthy charity and needs all the support it can get to hopefully one day be able to find the cure that will save so many lives.

In terms of my personal challenge, as you may know, I have never been a particularly sporty person. Put me on a stage and I will dance to my hearts content but running is a whole different story.

Dad has done the Manchester 10k 4 times before and asked me every year to join him and every year I would say no. One cold December evening in 2012 he asked me again and for some crazy reason I said yes, so here I am. I must say though, being the competative person that I am, I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge so far and want to push myself and do better each week.

If all of the reasons above aren't enough to make you want to sponsor me, do it for the pure entertainment value of seeing me struggling to run 6.2 miles around the streets of Manchester on the 26 May 2013 and yes, that is an invitation to also come and watch (and laugh at me) on the day.

A donation of any size at all will be greatly appreciated and I am sure you will agree will go to a great cause.
