Story
As many of you know, I was born at 24 weeks weighing just 1lbs 3oz and had a 30% chance of survival. I was born at All Saints Hospital in Chatham and immediatly placed into the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Unit. In 1999 the unit moved to Medway Maritime Hospital, continuing to provide the much needed care and support for both premature and full-term babies and their families.
The unit has 32 cots spread over 3 nurseries; Intensive Care, High Dependency and Special Care. Though the Government and the Primary Care Trust provide the Unit and pays the staff, there is not sufficient money to provide the care needed. This is why the Trust was set up in 1985. The money raised has helped to buy ventilators, incubators, and ultrasound machines among other equipment as well as provide funding for the Kent Neonatal Transport ambulance.
This year they are hoping to raise £100,000 for The Hippo Appeal which will go towards updating 10+ years old equipment and facilities in the High Dependancy Nursery.
£40,788 buys a transport incubator £27,610 buys a SiPAP machine £28,947 buys a ventilator
This is a cause that is very close to my heart and I truly appreciate any amount that you can give.
Without fundraising, the unit would not be able to give the state-of-the-art care to premature babies or support to their families.
Thank You
