Story
On 21 September 2014 a young man took his own life. Zak Harper, my nephew, was just 21.
Zak's suicide was not unique. In 2014 over 6,000 people took their life. Tragic and needless loss, and can you imagine how many other people's life's have been destroyed by their loss? Families, friends, colleagues....
Mental health affects 1 in 4 people. I'm sure, like me, you know too many people who suffer depression, anxiety or other mental health issues that debilitate them, and make every day a struggle to get through.
So what am I going to do about it?
I'm going to take on a trio of challenges: Wrexham marathon in March, the Prudential 100 mile bike ride in July and - if my body is still functioning - the Thames Path ultra marathon (50km) in September. And I'm hoping to raise £1,000 by doing so.
Here's how you can help me reach that target:
- sponsor me on this page. Every penny will make a difference.
- take part in a virtual run during January for £8 - everyone gets a fab medal
- guess my finish time for Wrexham marathon for £2. The nearest prediction will receive £25 John Lewis vouchers.
Nothing can bring Zak back or make his family's pain any less, but together we can raise vital funds for MIND and provide the necessary support for others with mental health issues.
Please spare what you can.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
