Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am endeavouring to climb Mt Kilimanjaro for the GVI charitable trust to give help and resources to ACJ Parkade School in the Nomazamo township, South Africa. I am currently volunteering at the school to teach basic numeracy and literacy to the children. These kids live in poverty on the township, in hand-me-down uniforms, many have no shoes and thier homes are corrugated iron shanties no bigger than your garden shed. These children have all fallen behind in school because the classroom sizes are 50+ and the teachers are poorly resourced so many of them are missed and they are in real danger of losing any chance for a real future of a job and a life away from the township.
I climb on 15th March and it will be mentally and physically demanding. Its 5900m high, 1700m higher than the Inca trail and 500m higher than Everest base camp. I know at that altitude and over the 7 days the thought of doing this for a greater cause and your very generous support will make sure somehow I get to the summit.
Thank you so much in advance for your help - it will make such a difference to these children and having seen and worked on the project I know what a difference we can all make.
Thank you
Alex
