Story
On the 30th of April we will be running the Clapham Common 10k to raise money for Haematology Cancer Care, the charity founded 22 years ago to support department in which our very close friend Olga Iturri is being treated at University College London Hospital.
Olga was diagnosed on Tuesday 4th April with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Since the diagnosis, her strength, courage and positivity has never ceased to inspire all those around her and her blog, http://olgaiturrityler.livejournal.com/905.html?utm_source=fbsharing&utm_medium=social,
is sure to help others in her situation for years to come.
Although Olga is winning the mental battle that comes with this disease none of this would be possible without the amazing support services, complete dedication and professionalism of all the staff in the haematology ward of university college hospital; from nurses, cleaners, complementary therapists, youth workers and of course the doctors themselves, every member of staff has given everything to make life as easy as possible for Olga, whether in regard to her health or general wellbeing.
Although the NHS offers incredible support for the ward, it does not offer key services such as nurse education and therapeutic support, making the work of the charity essential to providing the additional support that makes this ward stand out from any other. Given our experience so far, it comes as no surprise that University College London Hospital is rated amongst the best for haematology care worldwide.
We are Olga's Army and we will fight this with her and be with her every step of the way.
You can help in supporting Olg and improving the care of all others with this illness for years to come.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated!
