Story
When she was just one year old, my first cousin Kaitlyn was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst that resulted in hydrocephalus. She was admitted to Brenner to receive shunt surgery. 6 months later Brenner Children’s Hospital performed emergency surgery that saved kaitlyn's life when she developed bacterial meningitis and an infected shunt. She was given a temporary shunt so that she could receive weeks of IV antibiotics and eventually a programmable permanent shunt. She had yet another life saving procedure at Brenner and during these stays my Aunt and Uncle stayed at Ronald McDonald house to be with Kaitlyn. This was a true blessing for our family. A few years later,
Kaitlyn's baby brother Matthew was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. He received heart surgery at Brenner when he was ten days old. Matthew became an Angel that day, but our family could not have asked for a better or more capable staff and facility to handle his care. The tenderness, respect and care they showed our family upon his passing is still appreciated to this day.
Our Kaitlyn continues to excel, thrive and bless our lives every day. Please donate so that other children and their families can continue to benefit from all Brenner has to offer
