Following his participation in Social Bite’s Sleep in the Park Dec 2018, Alex is continuing his support for the cause with a fundraising mission to Everest Base Camp this September. His goal is to raise £10k for this great cause. Alex is funding the expedition himself so 100% of the money raised will go to directly to Social Bite.
Social Bite’s mission is to build a collaborative movement to end homelessness in Scotland. They work towards this in a number of ways, through their chain of five social enterprise cafes. All profits from the cafes go towards the goal of ending homelessness in Scotland, as well as acting as hubs for their impact work such as the provision of free food on a daily basis and the social supper evenings. Social Bite also owns a restaurant in Edinburgh called Vesta which encourages customers to pay forward meals in advance. Vesta opens exclusively for people in a situation of homelessness and food poverty on Monday afternoons to serve a two-course meal from the generosity of customers choosing to pay it forward.
In 2017 Sleep in the Park saw 8000 people gave up their beds to shine a political spotlight on the issue of homelessness. From this movement, the Social Bite Village was born in Granton, housing up to 20 homeless people. In 2018, 10,000 people joined the movement across 4 events in Scotland's key cities and helped pioneer an important programme called Housing First. This works collaboratively with partners to take Scotland's most vulnerable individuals and places them straight into permanent homes with full wrap-around support. With nearly 50 people now in their own home, Social Bite is working with their partners to have 830 people housed by the end of 2019.
Anything you can do to support this mission would make a significant difference so, if you can, please give your support to Alex’ efforts and donate to the cause. Together, we can end homelessness in Scotland.
