Story
I was told I was high risk for breast cancer in 2011. In December 2012 I had a double mastectomy after making the very difficult decision that my life was worth lots more than owning a set of boobs!! With enough investment and work this sort of procedure should become a thing of the past, women of the future will not have to go through what I have gone through but charities need money to make sure research continues.
Therefore, its my time to give back and I hope you will be inspired by my plans and you will donate to my page.
I plan to run 2 marathons - London and then 6 weeks later Edinburgh. Then in June I will be part of the crew sailing a 70 foot racing yacht across the Atlantic ocean.
2 marathons scares the hell out of me, the training involved will basically take over my life during 2014. I also fear losing toe nails!!! And injury....
Then there is the sailing trip, champagne sailing it is not! Living on a 45 degree angle, sharing a toilet with 20 other people, eating dried and canned food, no showers and living in a really confined space will all require high levels of 'digging deep' and tolerance on my part, all whilst I am sleep depraved on 4 hour shifts.
I hope to prove to other women going through a high risk diagnosis that there is life after a mastectomy and I'm hoping to raise lots of dosh while I go about it!
