Story
After 15 years of sitting on my backside ( I know, the golf never really counted!) I’m finally motivated to do some exercise and try to rediscover the athleticism of my youth.
The motivation comes because we lost a great friend to Cancer in March this year. Fiona Lacey was diagnosed with Cancer Unknown Primary (CUP) in September last year. While the primary cancer was never really understood, very sadly, the secondary cancer was in her lung. She was incredibly strong and fought courageously but she lost her battle after only 6 months. Fi was 36.
Her husband Jon was an Usher at my wedding and Fi and Jon have been great friends for a number of years. They had been married for just over a year when Fi was diagnosed. This has been such a tragic event. So sad for Fi, her parents, her friends and of course for Jon. The life they had planned has been cruelly taken away.
This is such a brutal disease, capable of affecting any of us at any time – CUP kills thousands of people every year and as the name suggests we know little about it. More research is needed to understand it and to hopefully find a cure that can benefit others in the future.
Jon has been a keen cyclist for a number of years and I haven’t done any exercise in an awfully long time! It feels very appropriate to support him with this challenge. 30 of us are cycling to Paris over 3 days (its over 250 miles!) in early July raising money for Cancer Research UK and in memory of FI.
Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated.
