When we decided to take part in the half marathon we decided to raise money for cancer research because we both support the charity and have both had loved ones who's lives have been changed due to the devastating effects of cancer. However, just before Christmas, my girlfriend's grandpa lost his fight with cancer after nearly 10 years of fighting. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many and was just a brilliant man. So we thought it would be a nice gesture to run this marathon in memory of him. He also raised so much money for cancer research so this would be a good way to carry on raising for the charity now that he is gone. Rest in Peace Allan <3.
