Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday 28th October I will be taking a little stroll across red hot wood embers to raise funds for a charity very close to my heart - Marie Curie.
I have worked at Marie Curie for over two years now and have been overwhelmed by the fantastic difference they make to terminally ill people's lives. Whether it is providing nursing care to people who wish to die at home, or support in hospices or even information and support, this fantastic charity gives families the unique gift of time - precious time to spend with the loved ones at the end of life.
This in itself is enough reason to sponsor me a few quid (please!) but...
...you know those moments when you open your mouth and agree to do something before all of the sensible bits in your brain tell you to actually shut up and stop talking? Well this was me.
In one of our meetings, my work colleagues were discussing firewalks. At some point, yours truly make a promise that if other colleagues signed up to do one, then yes, I would too.
(Facepalm)
I was an idiot, but I can't step away from my behaviour. So...
...if you agree it was a rash and stupid thing to do, then please sponsor me and smile contentedly as a coward forces himself to fight every inch of his inner chicken and walk on red hot embers.
...if you work with me and want to stump up to see me do something that I would do a LOT to avoid, then donate now.
...if you know me personally and want to support me for giving you cash for far more sensible events, well hey, it's payback time.
...or more importantly, if you want to help fund a charity that really makes a difference where it counts, and needs more cash to help more people and families facing the prospect of terminal illness of their siblings, or friends, then please dig deep and sponsor me.
Thanks!
Alastair
