Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well as you can see from the photograph, we made it.!! We drove up to Fort William and the Ben Nevis car park on the morning of Tuesday 17 August from Kenmore on Loch Tay via a fog-bound Glen Coe but by the time we set off the fog had lifted and we could see part of the way up.The first 90 minutes or so were quite straightforward but as we started on the notorious zig-zags we entered the cloud and the ascent became much more difficult. We reached the trig point at 1434metres in just under 4 hours, had  a bite to eat and started our descent. Like Snowdon, the cloud lifted quite soon and we were treated to some magnificient views over Fort William and Loch Linnie. We reached the car park about 3 hours later, tired but elated that we had achieved our objective.

I, and Paul, have now completed the second part of our Challenge when last Thursday we walked up Snowdon via the Watkin Trail. This trail, which at 9 and half miles, is the longest but the most picturesque ascent of the mountain, was started by Sir Edward Watkin to connect his summer house at Nantgwynant to the summit of Snowdon and finally completed by the NT in 2002.

We left Nantgwynant at 10.15 and after walking through some mist and rain finally reached the summit at 1.20 (see picture) It was not very pleasant in the mist and rain and after a quick warm-up and a bite to eat we started our descent via the Bwlch Main and Clogwyn Du finally arriving back at Nantgwynant at 5pm. The mist lifted on the way down, the sun came out and we were treated to some magnificent views towards Anglesey, the Llyn Peninsula and Cardigan Bay.

Two walks are now complete and Ben Nevis will be next on August 17.

Your generosity has been magnificent. I thank you all on behalf of all those who will be assisted by the work of the Trust.

The first of my walks, up Scafell Pike, was completed on Sunday May 23 in the company of my son-in-law, Paul. We left Warrington at after 6.30am and, after parking the car at Seatoller, began walking at 9am. Just before we reached the summit we decided to take a 'short cut' across a considerable amount of scree. This proved quite difficult and so time-consuming that a fellow walker who went the longer way reached the summit before us.

After a short rest and some food, we went down through a boulder field the route of which was indicated simply by a series of cairns and afterwards a uneven but well-laid path arriving back at Seatoller a few minutes after 5pm.

It was a very hot and long day but well worth the effort though our calves and knees were sore when we finished.

The next part of this trek will take place on July 4 when I, accompanied this time by Paul and my son Robert, will be walking up Snowdon.

So please dig deep and keep the donations coming in.....it is all for a good cause.
