The Reading Half Marathon is my first ever half marathon and although daunting I am really looking forward to it in a strange sort of way. I will be supported by my nephew and running buddy Billy on the half marathon. At present he is doing all his training runs in Camp Bastian, Afghanistan whilst serving in the Army. He will not be back in the UK until a week before the race.

My reason for running in this event is that I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in August 2012 and had a successful operation in November 2012 where I had my prostate removed. The operation was carried out by Dr Omar Karim a leading light in Prostate cancer and the use of robotic surgery at Wexham Park Hospital

I decided that I needed a goal to aim for following surgery and that running a half marathon and getting sponsorship for prostate cancer was the way to go.

Please remember that if you know any males about 50 years old and they haven’t had a blood test to check their PSA get them to contact their doctor and get one done. This is how my cancer was discovered early and successfully treated as I had no symptoms prior to the test.
