DURING AND AFTER: The Brighton Marathon. April 18th 2010
Turned out to be a scorcher, good for the crowds - bad for the
runners, especially me as it turned out!
Started brightly but following
the 5 mile long climb to Rottingdean, at halfway felt like I had done
20 miles.
At 16 miles starving hungry and reduced to walking but then
met Catherine (my wife) spectating who produced a cheese sarnie and a doughnut!
This worked
some amazing magic and was able to resume "running" for the next 10
miles. Last 5 miles utter hell until massive buzz of the final 200m
when finish line spotted!
Final time 5h 14m, about 1hour more than
aiming for but hey, I did it!
BEFORE: The Brighton Marathon. April 18th 2010
I've never done this before. 26 miles. Gulp. The furthest I've ever run before this training was 7 miles.
But I AM going to DO IT. I've said it now - no going back.
I want to do this for myself, but also for the Newman Trust.
The Newman Trust holidays for disabled children
Every year some dear friends of mine put their hearts and souls into providing a group of disabled children with a life changing holiday. By doing so, they also provide vital respite for their dedicated parents and carers. This a chance for us to help them. They are a small charity, donations are vital for them to keep going, please sponsor me for whatever you can afford.
Sponsoring me
Sponsoring me through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure, just follow the link on this page. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you so much.
