ME???? you all know me! Birdie the big Ginger fella who hated Running couldn't Swim and well Bike? that's what cars were invented for!

Well after smashing my ankle to pieces as an 18 stone footballer I thought it was about time to sort myself out.   With the aid of a physio called Nigel Tarratt who helped me get back on my feet and with his encouragement and watching him doing a Triathlon event the - I could do that I think ? competitive side of my nature came out!  So that's what I decided to do - I started swimming, cycling and running,  joining Fenland Running Club and that was it, my addictive nature took over - I was hooked - I am a triathlete!    Thanks Nigel!!!!!!!

Through a very good friend of mine who happens to be the President of Kings Lynn Rotary Club I heard of Churchill Park School and what an incredible place it is. Currently Rotary are raising money to keep their farm project evolving and moving forward with the addition of more animals and the need for better access for wheelchairs and other equipment to enable the children to get the full benefit of the farm.

The idea of "taking education out of the classroom" has proved a fantastic success, where the children themselves take responsibility for the welfare of another living creature, or sowing seeds to grow crops that then find their way into the school's kitchen and the children are a part of the process from beginning to end.

So through Rotary I have secured myself a place in the Staffordshire Half Iron Man to raise money for this incredible project.

So my challenge!   Swim 1.2 miles    Cycle 56 miles   Run 13.1 miles

I visited the school it is a truly amazing and very humbling place with incredible staff and children. They are a true inspiration to stop me complaining about the endless training, freezing temperatures, cold fingers and toes plus the fact of no BEER till the jobs done!
