The walk will take place in May 2011 starting at St Bees on the 8th May and hopefully finishing at Robin Hoods Bay on the 20th May.
I have only been a member of the Royal British Legion for a year or so but I have been involved in two poppy appeals. It has amazed me on both occasions the depth of feeling that the British public holds towards this wonderful charity by the comments that are passed.
Its a rare year indeed when our armed forces are not involved somewhere in the world in wars or peacekeeping operations where they can be shot at, wounded or killed.
It is therefore a real shame that this depth of feeling towards the charity and the
serving and ex members of the forces is not translated into more cash to
enable the charity to do more for these people who are serving now or who have served in recent and not so recent conflicts.
The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.
Although the needs of ex-Service people have changed over the years, the Legion is still there to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory.
