Story
My name is Alan Baird and I am a cancer survivor. I have had a number of run in's with cancer over the years. I have had kidney cancer which nearly killed me however one brave surgeon decided that was not going to be the case and operated to give me a chance. Unfortunately I had a secondary cancer which took part of my pancreas, duodenum, stomach and intestine. Again it was due to skillful surgeons that I am still here. I now have prostate cancer but thankfully this is slow growing. I have been told twice that I would not make it and it was just a matter of time. Thanks to the courageous surgeons, specialist, doctors, nurses and research staff, I have made it through.
Unfortunately my wife, Reita Baird is now having treatment for myeloma which is a bone cancer. She is doing well and is just going through her fifth month of chemotherapy at the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre. The centre has provided us with a great deal of support during this difficult time and it is only right that we try and raise money again to support this local cause.
Cancer is a terrible disease but it is important to our family that we stay strong, support each other and keep smiling. That is what this parachute jump is all about. I do still have cancer but it is important, to carry on with the things you enjoy.
