Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi, my name is Allan Parker, and I  will be running the 2020 London Marathon in aid of the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea.

Being a member of the crew in the RNLI was a dream I have had since I was a young boy holidaying in the Gower in Wales. I was fascinated watching the Crews launch their ILBs and ALBs into some rough and dangerous conditions to selflessly help others and dreamed of one day having the chance to do so myself. Then finally i had the chance when I became part of an amazing Crew at Clacton RNLI.

I myself am an active crew member at Clacton-on-Sea RNLI, on the Essex coastline, just one of 9,000+ operational volunteers at 238 RNLI stations providing a 100-mile ring of safety around the UK and Ireland, along with protecting its major waterways.

Even though everyone at a RNLI inshore lifeboat station such as Clacton are volunteers, the average annual running costs is £95,000. Personal protective equipment for each crew member is in excess of £1800, with training costs of £1600 per year.

am asking for your help in raising the £1600 needed, more if possible so the RNLI can continue to train others like me to gain the skills needed to save lives at sea. So please help by sponsoring me when I undertake the 2020 London Marathon.

As many of you will be aware, the RNLI is funded almost entirely by the generosity of people like you, and without your generosity the RNLI would not exist.
