We raise money for our playground project to give our children a great place to play

Story

Background:

2020/2021 was set to be an exciting couple of years of fundraising  for Akiva, with a target of raising £50,000 to improve the playground. Unfortunately, as you may know, the PTA has had to cancel a number of events because of restrictions, including 2 summer fairs, a silent auction and many other events. These events would have had us well on our way to our target.

We appreciate that these are extremely challenging times but we wanted to reach out to see if you would consider donating whatever you are able to enable us to finish the work over the summer. Last summer, due to your amazing generosity, the builders were able to finish all the work on our KS2 playground. We would love to do the same this summer in our KS1 space and give the children a fantastic outside space to come back to in September.

This would be the final stage of our playground fundraising project, and we are very grateful for whatever you are able to donate in the current environment.

A little bit more about the Playground Project:

Each child spends over 300 hours in the school playground every year so we would love to make sure that the space is the best it can be.

See the gallery above to give you an idea of what the playground could look like (these are just concept images until we know how much we have raised). With your kind support we have already:

- Built an amazing purpose-built multi-use games area in the KS2 playground, for sports such as football, hockey and basketball. This is a fantastic area for them to burn off all their energy.

With this year's donations we could:

- Resurface parts of the KS1 playground. Currently the surface is uneven, has pot-holes and is hard unforgiving concrete when the kids fall off the equipment (some of us know all too well from experience!) The new surface will be softer and will include a grassed football zone, twister, long jump, 2D obstacle course, triple hopscotch and a numbered snake.

- Provide more seating and shade. The children have told us that there isn't enough seating in the playground for when they are tired or want to sit and chat - your money would help fund some new child-friendly benches and shade for hot days. This will be a great place to rest, swap stickers and catch up with friends!

Your contributions:

If you are able, please do help us with this great cause, your donations will make a real difference:

- £30.64 will pay for 1mof the brand new surface in the KS1 playground

- £50 will pay for 1% of the new shelter

The overall playground cost is £90,000 (for both the KS1 & KS2 work)
and The Akiva Foundation are kindly match funding some of the cost -
so every £1 you donate will actually raise £2.25 (with giftaid)!

Thank you so much for your support from everyone (especially the children) at Akiva School :)

The school was the first Jewish primary school in the country to be established by the Progressive Jewish community, providing particularly for members of Reform and Liberal communities and the New North London synagogue. In 2006 it was designated as a two-form entry school in preparation for the move to the state sector in the London Borough of Barnet. With funding from the then Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF) a new building was constructed on the Manor House site into which the school finally moved at the beginning of January 2008.
