Thanks for visiting my page.
his Sunday I will be lining up at the start line for the Berlin Marathon, with 42.195km of blue striped lines between me and the Brandenburg Gate. Without having much time for a post-race holiday, I will be swiftly heading back home for the starting line of the London Marathon with the aim to secure two World Marathon Majors medals in two weeks!
Here’s a few fun facts:
- The Berlin Marathon is considered to have the fastest course of the world’s six major marathons—a group that also includes the New York City, Boston, Chicago, London, and Tokyo marathons—and it has been the site of numerous world-record times since it was first held in 1974
- The route of the Berlin Marathon was restricted to West Berlin until the 1990 marathon, which took place just three days before German reunification. The current course begins in Tiergarten and circles through the city before ending near its beginning at the Brandenburg Gate
- The first London Marathon took place on March 29, 1981. 7,055 runners set off from Blackheath, as many as 6,255 finished. There have been 1,125,810 finishers in total since that first race. The largest field so far was in 2019 when 42,906 started and 42,549 finished
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
Please help support the amazing BHF, which as some of you know holds a special place in my family's hearts.
Thank you for all your support!
Jai Jalaram!
