I am fundraising for VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas), so I can take part in a volunteer program in Ghana for 3 months in February! The money I raise does not go directly to my expenses, but to the charity itself, so that things like the necessary tools and local volunteers, can be afforded and supported in the host country.

Whilst in Ghana I will live with a host family in a community in the West Akim of the Eastern Region of Ghana. The dominant occupation in the communities is cocoa farming, as 75% of the district's population are farmers. West Akim Livelihood Project is the name of the project I will be taking part in, and throughout my placement I may take part in all sorts of work with the community, from research to training, raising awareness and developing resources. 

I will also work alongside the partner organisation FLOWER (Facilitating Learning of Women in Emerging Regions), a women-led, non-profit organisation which works with communities to run practical, low cost activities that help young women to realise their full potential and feel empowered to make decisions about their future.
