We campaign, support and fund research to stop people dying of bowel cancer

Story

Hi, thanks a lot for visiting.

My name's Aidan. As some of you may already know, my mum, Barbara Moss, was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer 5 years ago and told she only had 3 months to live. The doctors said there was no chance of an operation to remove the tumour due to its advanced stage, and as such we started to prepare for the worst.

5 years on, and my mum is still here. She has been off any form of treatment for 2 years now and is currently in remission. We have been told the cancer will return at some stage, but I have a feeling she's not going to accept that lightly (she can be a bit feisty!).

A drug called Avastin is the reason my mum is still alive today, as it shrank the tumour enough to be able to remove it via an operation. However, this was unavailable on the NHS at the time, resulting in her having to seek private treatment and spend thousands of pounds to save her own life. Without the help and support of fantastic charities such as Bowel Cancer UK, this would have been a much more difficult experience. My mum has done a huge amount of campaigning with them already in order to get fairer access to cancer drugs for everyone, and her story has become a high profile case, appearing in national newspapers, national news and even abroad in France and Australia. She has also recently been made Bowel Cancer UK's Patient Ambassador, something I'm sure she'll thrive at if past experience is anything to go by!

I wanted to do something myself in order to try and raise as much money as possible for Bowel Cancer UK, so I'll be doing a tandem skydive on Tuesday April 3rd (April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month). I've never done one before so it's incredbily exciting (and maybe a little daunting!), but the most important thing is to raise as much money as possible to help people in a similar situation to my mum.

Anything you can donate would be massively appreciated, and it really will help people suffering with bowel cancer a huge amount.

Thank you for reading this, and for giving anything you can.

Aidan
