Story
Almost 7 years since my beautiful mum passed away, age 70. The end of the long goodbye. She had severe advanced Alzheimer's for 15 years. My brave dad gave up his job to look after her.
Once when I was helping mum in the toilet...
She said: "What's your name? I'd like to tell my daughter how helpful you've been"
At least she knew she had a daughter
It's a devastating disease with huge impact on family and friends. It's not just about 'forgetting things'.
This is why I'll be running 2 half marathons - the Great North Run on the 10-9-23 (my 17th!) and Great Scottish Run on the 1-10-23, for Alzheimer's Society, as I believe in helping them support crucial scientific research in the disease and much needed therapy, and to support the family and friends who has to bear the burden.
I often donate to charities. I think of it this way: if I can do without that £1, £5, £10 or more, I'm happy to know it's gone to good causes. I hope you feel the same when you donate.
Every time someone sponsors me, I get a little flutter, and feel touched that you care. This really boosts my confidence, and believe that there is so much love in the world to share!
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Thank you!
