Story

10years ago I ran the 2007 London Marathon, I was young and believed I was capable of anything I put my mind to; so much so I bet that I could run the marathon without training and that's just what I did, I jumped out of bed that morning got a lift from my parents to London and just ran until I crossed the finish... I have always been interested in sport and have dedicated my life to it, I have a BTEC Sports Development, GNVQ Leisure and Tourism, BSc Sports Science and a pending MSc in Sports Therapy as well as a Level 3 Personal Trainer and FA Level 2 Football Qualifications. I run my own business in fitness, promoting health and educating children and adults in physical activity.

However it has been the past few years of my life that have changed my outlook on life. My Mum and her close friend Fay Diplock were diagnosed with Cancer, Mum battled the disease in to remission but her friend Fay lost her life, and just as it seemed my life was returning back to a sense of normality, my father Lloyd Porter and my best friends mother Val Patterson were both diagnosed with Cancer... unfortunately they also lost their lives. Losing your father is one of the hardest things you can ever be faced with and it changed my perspective on life. I have grown so much as a person since that day just over a year ago and it filled me with a sense of determination to do something for others, for those less able and less fortunate than myself.

10years ago I raised money for the National Autistic Society on two occasions completing the London Triathlon and London Marathon. I applied for the London Marathon for 2017 because I want to do something in memory of my father and loved ones that have passed on. I wanted to complete something that would make my father look down on me and feel proud. Most of all I want to do something that can affect so many people and that is why I have chosen the charity SCOPE.

Scope exists to make this country a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. Until then, we’ll be here.
