Story

Please can you help us raise money for a small South Yorkshire charity?

Having been involved workwise in the Sheffield Half Marathon for the last eight years and having ran it twice for two local branches of national charities, I decided to pick a small charity this year  – the South Yorkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.

I met centre manager Lynne Foster and part-time fundraiser Julia Conlan-Graves, through my work with the race and was always amazed by their tireless enthusiasm for event and for the centre.

In previous years, only a handful of runners have supported them so me, and my running mate Phil Meekin from Wilson Field, are aiming to raise awareness and some much needed funds for them.

The charity is a self-funding, self-help therapy centre offering around 200 people locally the chance to benefit from a unique blend of non-intrusive, holistic, complementary therapies and practical mutual support mainly for people with MS and other neurological conditions, their families and carers.

It costs around £116,000 a year just to keep the centre running. It receives no government funding but runs through donations, grants and a multitude of fund-raising initiatives.

Lynne and Julia, plus Judy Jones, part-time centre assistant, are ably, and invaluably, assisted by a team of members, volunteers, and friends to help keep the centre in Catcliffe, open every Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday.

Above all, the centre aims to help people to help themselves, keeping them as safe and as mobile as possible within the confines of their condition. Its offers a number of therapies including oxygen therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage, reflexology, aromatherapy and counselling. It also has a great supply of tea and biscuits, coffee and cakes, a warm welcome, and more than a few laughs.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please give as much as you can. I realise there are so many of these events - but i only do one fundraiser a year.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks so much.
