Story
Thank you for reading.
In 2018 I'll be taking on more challenges to raise funds and awareness for dementia research. The 'big one' is a 7 day trek in Guatemala, climbing 5 volcanoes with Alzheimer's Research UK's first overseas fundraising event.
In 2017 I took on as many challenges as I could to raise money for dementia research. I spent 5 months training for a 'gruelling' half-iron man distance triathlon in July and in October I cycled 100 miles on the Surrey Downs with a total ascent of nearly 7000 ft. Along the way I've finished various Park Runs, smaller triathlons and cycling events, always wearing an orange ARUK shirt (see list below and pictures). I have also organised a fundraising quiz, given lectures on dementia research and been on local radio in Cambridge.
DEMENTIA IS NOW THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE UK
I am Head of Chemistry for the Cambridge Drug Discovery Institute which is funded by Alzheimer's Research UK. Our mission is to find new treatments for ALL dementias (not just Alzheimer's disease). Dementia is not a natural part of ageing but is caused by diseases which 'eat away' at the brain until it can't function properly.
