The heart of their operation is their home nursing service, giving skilled nursing support on a one-to-one basis to any adult with a terminal illness in their own home. This provides respite care for patients and their families; it enables terminally ill patients to remain at home and dying patients to be discharged from hospital to their own homes. They are one of the very few providers of home nursing for the terminally ill, and were one of the two hospices that pioneered this service in 1987.
Additionally they provide Hospice Support in three community locations, Hospice Day Care in two places, a Lymphoedema Service, and a Bereavement Support Service. Patients can get Complementary Therapy treatment at the Hospice Support sessions and at hospice Day Care or in their own homes. All services are provided free. The NHS provides sufficient funding to cover about 1/3 of our costs. The rest, £7,500 a week, has to be raised locally through voluntary donations, fundraising and legacies.
