Story
In 2011 the world came crashing down on the family and continues to bring it's cruel challenges to this day.
At six years old my young cousin, McCauley Riley, was diagnosed with a terminal illness called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).
ALD effects one in 30,000 children in the UK and you may recognise it from the film 'Lorenzo's Oil. Those diagnosed with the condition usually become totally disabled within 6 months to 2 years and die shortly after this time.
Over the past couple of years Mac's condition has deteriorated and he has since lost his sight, hearing, mobility and has to be tube fed. With the family already dealing with Mac's condition his older brother was also diagnosed with the same illness in late 2012.
His condition had not progressed as fast and therefore he was able to undergo a bone marrow transplant (donated by his sister) which will not cure him but has stabilised his condition.
Unbelievably this year other members of the family have also been diagnosed with ALD including the boys Mother and their baby grandson and yet the family continue to put others before themselves by fundraising for other families suffering with children with ALD.
For my part in the fundraising I have targeted myself to lose six stone and to run the Ron Hill 10k being held in Accrington in March 2015.
To show my commitment to this I have so far lost almost 4 stone.
All I ask is you to donate what you can whether it be £1.. it all helps.
Please donate what you can to help these families make the precious time they have with their kids as special as possible.
