Story
£977.08 Was raised on my other just giving page. So the reason I'm making a new one is on this page I'll be able to receive gift aid.
Right. It looks like I'm all set to start fundraising to go to Costa Rica.
For those that don't know, my dad was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, which eventually spread around his body. The past 6 months have been extremely difficult, as we have seen a rapid decline in his physical and mental health.
After spending a lot time in this hospice these past few weeks, I really feel it has contributed to my dad's wellbeing. As much as I appreciate the NHS, i understand the budget just doesn't cover the kind of care that this place offers.
Anyone who knows my dad, knows his family is everything to him. When me and my sister were younger, my dad used to inflict long country walks on us. Looking back I never realised the true value of these walks and the time spent with my dad. That's why I think this trek is so fitting. What better way to honour such an incredible dad.
Whilst he was staying in the bradford royal infirmary - due to infection control - his grandchildren were not able to visit him, as well as short and strict visiting times, this made him feel out of control and alone, when all he wanted was the love and care of his family. The positive mental state of a patient is critical to their treatment and their final days, not only for the patient but for the loved ones. We were told just a couple of weeks ago, that my dad was just days away from death. And he's still here. And I honestly believe that without Marie Curie he wouldn't be.
The reason I am doing this is I have now seen just how important this hospice is to the patient and their family dealing with a terminal illness. This care does not come for free and not a penny of your taxes pays for this. They rely on donations, charity and the amazing work of the volunteers.
I'll be setting up a just giving page in the next few days and I would appreciate any support you can show for this worthy cause. As this place needs to continue.
Thanks to everyone that has being there for us. Thanks to the Marie curie hospice and a special thanks to my mum, who has just shown such incredible strength at such a testing time.
And most of all, thanks to my dad, for not going out, without a fight.
Please help me raise as much as possible. It is such a worthy cause. We all thought we'd lost my dad. We couldn't make sense of what he was saying and he would sleep a lot. Now he gets the chance to watch his granddaughters playing together again. And is cracking some jokes. And I'm certain that's because of the work of Marie Curie. So please, give whatever you can. I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you.
Update:
Sadly we lost my dad on the 21st of May. Words can't describe the pain we all feel at this great loss. He was such an incredible man, husband, father, father in law, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all.
My dad was so proud of me and my sister Helens determination to do this trek. Although it won't be easy at times - the trek itself but also raising the funds- it will most definitely be worth it.
I set up a new just giving page as I was unable to receive gift aid. So now when you donate more money will be going to the charity.
