Story
The 8 Billion Steps Project is a worldwide campaign, inviting everyone around the globe to play a part and contribute towards completing 8 billion steps by the end of 2021 and help raise funds for Crisis, the UK national charity for homeless people.
Current predictions put global homelessness at 2% of the world's population, that's around 160 million people. The real number is likely to be higher, given the very nature of the problem means tracking its true impact is a challenge. What isn't a challenge is seeing the impact it has on the lives of those affected by it.
Losing a home can be the result of a whole host of different reasons. Rising living costs and sudden life events such as a family breakdown or loss of earnings can quickly force people out of their homes.
However, Crisis knows it doesn't have to be this way and we believe that too. Crisis are working hard to end homelessness for good, not by expecting that nobody will ever lose their home again, but by making sure everyone facing homelessness gets the help they need. Crisis have set out a road map for ending Homelessness in the UK and the lessons learnt along the way will no doubt prove invaluable for the rest of the world.
So why not just donate and not bother walking? We believe passionately about the wonder that comes from getting outside and going for a walk. It strengthens the body, calms the mind, frees the spirit and energizes the soul. But even better than that, with each step forward comes the possibility of a conversation, an idea, a change. When you get people from all walks of life to clear their mind, have a conversation and share their story, you change mindsets, you change lives, you change the world.
So come join us in getting outside, going up the stairs, down the road, over the mountain and play your part in achieving 8 billion steps for an important cause, because tackling problems is best done together, one step at a time.
